We read every note we receive. Below is the directory for reaching the foundation, the framework we use to direct correspondence, and the boundaries we ask our visitors to respect — including, importantly, our policy on unsolicited grant applications.
A note before you write. The T. James Foundation is a private family foundation and does not accept unsolicited grant applications, letters of inquiry, or proposals. Our portfolio is built through long-standing relationships and proactive outreach by our staff. We share this plainly so you can decide how to spend your time.
Three channels, each tied to a specific kind of correspondence. Choosing the right one helps your message reach the person best positioned to respond.
For questions about the foundation, our work, or our governance practices. Also the right address for institutional or legal matters not directed elsewhere.
For journalists, researchers, and editors working on stories that touch the foundation, our partners, or our program areas. We respond to legitimate press inquiries on a best-effort basis.
Current grantees and partner organizations can reach the program officer or trustee they typically work with directly. For matters outside that relationship, the general office address is appropriate.
The foundation maintains a small administrative presence in Miami's Brickell financial district, alongside the operating offices of T. James Enterprises. We do not host walk-in visitors or accept in-person submissions. All correspondence should be directed via email or mail to the address opposite.
The foundation is registered in the State of Florida as a nonprofit corporation. Our annual disclosures, including audited financials and the IRS Form 990-PF, are published on the Annual Report page.
We try to be useful to those who write us, even when our answer is short or our policy precludes a longer reply. Here is what you can reasonably expect from us.
We aim to acknowledge legitimate correspondence within ten business days. Press inquiries with a deadline should note that deadline in the subject line; we do our best to honor it.
Unsolicited grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding pitches will not be reviewed and will not receive a substantive response. This is not a reflection on the work; it is a reflection on our process.
Correspondence shared with the foundation is treated as private unless explicitly marked for publication. Our handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.
The foundation does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice; does not host events open to the public; and does not accept introductions to prospective grantees outside our established networks.
